Possibly July

•May 18, 2010 • 3 Comments

I don’t want to jeopardize a 2010 release, but I also couldn’t expect how many music jobs I got at the last convention I have been to. So, June will be busy with moving and all. AND, I am not through composition for the 3 epic Worship songs. I put a lot of thought, effort, emotion and parts into them, so this can really take a few more weeks. I hope I will start recording in July.

Remember, as a full time composer, I get a lot of things done in a month. All is not lost.

Working on Song #3

•April 22, 2010 • 2 Comments

Ok, now I’m really making progress here. I decided to put this song on Slot #3 on the new album. That’s the same one I had some ideas for a few days back. So now I have the order of songs solid. I now worked out how to start the song, it has a lot of content now and might be the 2nd longest song on the album. It has some clean guitar parts and 2 heavy parts, an atmospheric mid section and a longer end part with 3 segments. I think it’s complete, but I have to polish it of course.

So 2 songs are in itself almost complete, but I still have not written down any lyrics, that’s how I am. But I have of course a lot of ideas and feelings for both songs.

I am not sure about song #2, I have to take some time to get that one right.

News about the 2010 Album

•April 21, 2010 • 1 Comment

First, as discussed yesterday in my personal blog, yours truly will become fulltime musician in June. I don’t know how many funeral doom metal band leaders out there are fulltime musicians, but I’ll soon be!

Don’t fear that Worship will suffer in any way. I will continue to treat the band with the utmost respect and will not start acting like a boyband. The opposite is the case! I will have more time to invest into Worship. I can make potentially better albums, but surely more frequent releases.

I have customers in the soundtrack business, but Worship plays a big role in my life. I have to be thankful for my true and noble fanbase, thank you for supporting Worship for so long. That very support, not only financially by good sales, is what makes this wonderful step possible: Without you, I wouldn’t have made it past the loss of my good friend Max who started the band with me. Many emails and letters moved me to go on.

Let’s look into the future. After the move to our new studio facilities in June is complete, one of the first things will be the start of the recordings for the yet untitled new Worship album. Yesterday I alluded a bit to what it will be about, today I will give a few more details:

It will be available on CD and LP. It will not be a Double LP this time, so the length will be limited by what an LP will hold, and the songs need to group to 2 vinyl sides, naturally. A Double LP made sense as it took me 7 years to release the last album. Now, I want to create an album in about 2 years, and invest the time rather into quality than in number of songs.

As song number #1 is going to turn out quite long, I will possibly fit only 3 songs on the album, but it will have a playing time close to the maximum of an LP. Good news for lovers of long epic doom songs (like I am).

That is about all I can reveal right now. I am definitely aiming for a 2010 release, late autumn, early winter. I could never forsee all possible problems that might delay that, but I have much more time and freedom to tackle that production.

I can only end by saying that I give my whole soul in doing this album, and I know that I am trusting Worship’s fanbase a lot in this. But I think the trust is very well placed in you! I hope you trust me in return, and will support what I think will be a great new Worship album! I have a few ideas how you might help me pull this off, more about that later! 🙂

Subscribe to this blog, or to our Myspace blog, and I keep you updated. I have a few surprises left for later… 🙂 And I am really interested in your comments!

Some Work on Song #1

•April 20, 2010 • 1 Comment

This morning, I picked up my Worship guitar to polish the various parts of Song #1 (no name, still) for the next album. This will be the longest song on the album. I have been working on this bastard for years, it has a lot of parts, and strong themes I think. In the first phase, which can be very long, I only work in my head. Some parts first met a guitar today.  This is a skill (or weird quirk, as you prefer) which I developed over the years.

Downside: If I drop dead today, all songs are lost. I don’t write anything down.
Upside: I can work on Worship wherever I am, whatever I do.

When an idea hits me, I am ready. Sometimes I cheat and sketch ideas with my Iphone’s voice recorder. Otherwise, I have an awful memory. I have to hammer evey line of lyrics into my head. But I’m quite good with melodies. I have no problem at all to remember songs I have written 14 years ago but never recorded or written down.

I often use parts of the old songs in new Worship songs, I did it on “Dooom” several times. For example: Verse 2 of “I am The End” is one of the first songs I have ever written. I never actually finished that song, it was a vampire song called “My Last Sunset” (I was young!), but the verse was interesting I think (the chorus sucked, for you the cutting room floor). Or, most parts of “Whispering Gloom” or “Graveyard Horizon” are very old, around 1995.

Back to the new album: If you must ask, Song #1 reminds me a bit of  “Graveyard Horizon”, “Zorn A Rust-Red Scythe” and some My Dying Bride and Esoteric, maybe, in the scale of songs like “Whispering Gloom” or “Worship”. It’s long, much longer than anything on “Dooom”. It will contain a lot of Worship aspects, even some from “Last Tape” which have not been tapped recently.

“Song #1” will be the opener (duh) and will narrate the dream I had recently. I had a dream about the end of days, with an interesting twist. This is like a gift, to be sent a story in my dreams which is actually still good after I wake up. I have to use it. I want to use it for Song #1 and for the album concept. Most important is to remember the feeling.

Usually, we dream more subtext than substance, e.g. actually dreaming the feeling “this is very good” but it really isn’t. Or, I had that a lot, I dream “This is the best song I have ever written”. If I can indeed remember anything from the song after I wake up, it’s usually rubbish. That’s how dreams work. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have to do any work at all!

New Song ideas

•April 13, 2010 • 1 Comment

Hey guys,

yesterday 2 new parts came to my mind for one of the songs for the next album. And, as I usually do, I added a part which I have written around 1997 and have never used. It fit’s nicely here, and so another song for the album is about to be ready. I want to start recording in June, so will be reaching the end of the composition phase soon.

Future

I have a few ideas for 2 albums at least… At least I have a good idea for the album after the next. I wonder what you feel about the release frequency. There is a poll on the righthand-side of the blog. If the next album comes out in 2010, when should the album after it be released?

Plans solid

•March 17, 2010 • 1 Comment

Hey everyone,
plans are solid concerning timeframe.
In June, my new studio will be set up. This will keep me busy of course, but still, I will be able to launch recordings for Worship’s next album in mid June. Depending on my other duties, I might be ready as soon as August. Maybe. That WOULD mean we have the thing out in Winter. That would be great.

I have a new concept for the album (I facebooked about that recently) which I got in my dreams. That’s useful. Have to love that. Not sure about the name, but I know the feeling I want to evoke , images , and I have a lot of music ready.

New shirt prints will come in July. For once, I am able to make very good predictions, because this is all based on contracts which I can trust.

More soon,

Worship 2010

•March 3, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Things look good for Worship this year.

I need to write some more material for the next album, but the stuff I have written so far makes me say: this will be a great album, if i say so myself.

Next Monday I will be able to say more about my schedule for this year, but I plan to record and release the next album, print some shirts (please see the poll in the sidebar to help me choose which), possibly play a gig or 2.

Nikki “Doomnike” Morgenroth, pro guitar and bass player, will have a chance to be active in both fields on the album. You might know him as the bass player from the 2008 gigs. The rest I will do myself I think.

I am between 2 different title/cover concepts, will reveal this much later. I will also promote this album differently. I hope for your help with that, or your hate, respectively. Thanks Worshippers, I couldn’t do this without you.

Welcome

Worship never really had much of a homepage. We have our Myspace page of course and our online shop, both will stay in use, but this thing here is new.

I will use this blog to post updates, especially from the studio. I will also use convenient features like the Poll. Also you can subscribe to this blog to get update emails, nice. What do you think?
